From challenge to solution: tailor-made functions for RMC

Automatic scheduling may sound futuristic, but at Rotterdamse Mobiliteits Centrale (RMC) in Rotterdam, it has been in use for several years. To get the most out of this automatic planner, they worked with Cabman to make a number of changes to the Cabman MDT. A great example of the customisation that Cabman offers!

RMC started out in Rotterdam and has grown into a national transport company. ”We offer tailor-made transport solutions for WMO transport, school transport and group transport,” explains Arnoud Hoogeveen, Product Owner at RMC. ”In doing so, we make sure that the service runs smoothly and efficiently.”

Efficiency in busy cities

RMC operates mainly in busy urban areas and processes a large number of trips every day. It is therefore essential that trips are processed efficiently and quickly. They do this using a combination of an automated planning tool and the Cabman MDT. ”The Cabman MDT is a reliable tool for us to communicate journeys. Drivers have instant access to up-to-date journey information, which makes the service more efficient and customer-focused.”

Areas for improvement

Although RMC is very satisfied with the use of the MDT, there were some areas for improvement in order to optimise the interaction between the automatic schedule software and the MDT. ”One of the main areas for improvement was that we wanted to be able to send trips to the MDT automatically, without the driver having to confirm them manually. This saves a lot of time and effort,” says Hoogeveen. ”The ability to send multiple updates without additional actions was also essential for us.”

Muting the beep

The company also wanted to be able to switch off the Cabman MDT’s audible signal when changes are made. ”When there are a lot of updates, the audible signal can be distracting, and this change will allow our drivers to concentrate better on their journeys,” explains Hoogeveen.

Ideas and solutions

The various areas for improvement were quickly addressed and Hoogeveen is very enthusiastic about the collaboration. ”The contact with the Cabman team was good from the start. As soon as we identified a problem, we were able to discuss it immediately and it was taken seriously. We found that they thought along with us and came up with solutions quickly. This ensured that the process went smoothly and that we are now working with improved functionalities that suit our daily practice.”
